SS7 Transport of TCAP Messages
Types of Changes:
Bell Atlantic is planning to provide for transport or "pass-through" delivery of Inter-network TCAP messages via the common channel signaling network(CCSN) using Signaling System 7 (SS7). This access will allow carriers to use Bell Atlantic’s CCSN to carry or transport Transaction Capabilities Application Part(TCAP)messages (i.e. database queries) to/from other networks.
This capability will allow Inter-network TCAP messages to be transported through the Bell Atlantic CCSN to another network. These messages will be MTP (Message Transfer Part)-routed through the appropriate Bell Atlantic STPs (Signal Transfer Points) without GTT (Global Title Transfer) being performed in the Bell Atlantic CCSN.
The transport of Inter-network TCAP messages requires that carriers interconnect to the Bell Atlantic CCSN. Bell Atlantic provides this interconnection to the CCSN via specifications developed for this specific purpose. The documents containing these interface specifications are:

Bell Atlantic Document CoordinatorBell Atlantic requires successful completion of all applicable tests as described in the above mentioned interconnection documents before network interconnection can take place. Additionally, application specific tests may be required before applications are allowed. These tests will proceed according to a mutually agreed upon test plan developed prior to SS7 Pass-Through Service establishment by representatives of Bell Atlantic and the requesting carrier.

An additional Bell Atlantic supplement, defining specific requirements for utilizing the Internetwork TCAP capability, will be released at a later date and will be provided to those who have requested the earlier supplements.
Date/Location changes are to occur:
The TCAP transport capability is expected to be available throughout the Bell Atlantic CCSN by April, 1997. Reasonably foreseeable impact of change: The potential impact to a carrier using Bell Atlantic’s CCSN for STP Pass-Through Service can vary depending on the carrier’s service application. Several potential impacts include the following:
- A heavier SS7 utilization may require additional link capacity;
- Improper configuration of services can cause unplanned switch and service operations resulting in service disruption and service or network failures;
- An overload of the carrier’s SS7 network may isolate a subscriber from its services;
- Additional interoperability and network testing may require longer testing suite duration.
