Adding a computer with a wireless adapter to a network running Windows Vista Before you begin: You’ll need your network's SSID, encryption type (WPA or WEP), and encryption key. You can find this information in one of three ways:

Review the sticker on the back of your router. The sticker displays the SSID and encryption key information. By default, some routers are configured as WPA. You may have to choose WEP if the device you wish to connect is not accepting WPA mode.
Use In-Home Agent to view your settings: You can access In-Home Agent on a computer that is already connected to Verizon Online. Within In-Home Agent, go to the Networking tab and select Retrieve SSID and WEP/WPA key.
Log in to your router from a computer already connected to your wireless network. The instructions you follow depend on the type of router you use to connect to FiOS Internet.

To add a computer to a wireless network using Windows Vista:

Click Start in the lower left Taskbar.

Select Connect To. [Show Me]

Select the network you want to join and click Connect.

If prompted, enter your network encryption key.

Click Close when you have successfully connected to your wireless network.

Confirming your network connection

After the message displays that your computer is successfully connected to the network, you can confirm that the computer is recognized on the network.

Click Start in the lower left Taskbar.

Click Network. [Show Me]

Confirm that the computer you just connected to the network is included with the other devices on your network. [Show Me]

Click Network and Sharing Center.Verify that your computer is included under Network and Sharing Center, and that it is connected to the network and Internet. [Show Me]

If you click on View full map, you should see an icon for the computer you just added, as well as all the other computers on your network that are running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7.
