    • Using the ping command in Windows XP or 2000 to verify the connection between your computer and router
    1. Click Start in the bottom Taskbar.


    2. Click Run. [Show Me]


    3. Enter cmd in the Run window.  [Show Me]

      • If "Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss)" displays, the connection is good and the signal successfully reached the router or gateway.


      • If "Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss)" displays, the connection is faulty and none of the signals did reached the router or gateway.


      • A "Destination host unreachable" or "Request timed out" error message also indicates the connection is faulty and the signal did not reach the router or gateway.
        • Check the physical connection between your computer and the router or gateway.
        • Check your router settings.
        • Contact your computer manufacturer for assistance. You may have to uninstall and then re-install the drivers for your Network Interface Card because they are corrupt, or you may have have a defective or damaged interface card.
