Subject: Subtending Rings on Dedicated SONET Ring(DSR East and West)

Dedicated SONET Ring (DSR) is a SONET based service, offered across Verizon's footprint. The DSR offering is designed as multi-node self-healing ring architectures with both the facilities and the Add/Drop Multiplexer (ADM) nodes fully dedicated to the customer of record. The service is designed as a self-healing SONET ring by diversely routing the fiber paths. The fiber path or links interconnect each premises/POP and wire center node to form a complete ring. This design criterion provides the customer with their own dedicated SONET ring that has no single point of failure (excluding the end points of any service riding the ring). DSR is available with line speeds of OC-3, OC-12, OC-48 and OC-192.Arial">

On April 18, 2006, Verizon introduced Subtending Rings service for all DSR customers in FCC No.1, FCC No. 11, FCC No. 14, and FCC No. 16 territories. This service enables DSR customers to interconnect two DSR arrangements and exchange traffic between those two rings. It allows a customer to subtend same-speed or lower-speed rings off of a designated main DSR ring using common nodes. The service places node/nodes in a ring configuration via common nodes with the use of port nodes. This approach is the vehicle to allow the two ring arrangements to interconnect. A subtended DSR Ring may be subtended from a single node or dual nodes of the designated main DSR Ring. More than one DSR Ring may subtend the main DSR Ring. A lower-speed DSR Ring may originate and terminate at one or two different higher speed nodes. Subtended Rings are engineered with NGADM (Enhanced Nodes), supported for Customer Service Management (CSM), configured as UPSR, and available under 3, 5, and 7-year terms.

Subtending Rings service is available for Switched and Special Access. For further information including specific terms and conditions on subtending Rings, please visit Verizon's interstate Tariffs: FCC No. 1, Sect. 23.1, FCC No. 11, Sect. 34.1, FCC No. 14, Sect. 20.2, and FCC No. 16, Sect. 20.2
