Verizon's IntelliLight Optical Transport Service (IOTS) is a private fiber-based facilities network that we design in accordance with your requirements and dedicate for your use in serving customers.

Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology boosts IOTS-protected channels to deliver highly reliable survivability and provide rapid repair dispatch as well as flexibility, high capacity optical traffic patterns and spare capacity on demand. IOTS translates into advanced service offerings for your customers -- that can help increase revenue for your company.

Normal Routing IOTS uses a combination of dedicated fiber-based facilities and advanced DWDM equipment to connect multiple locations. There are no single points of failure from an end-user location to the POP on Optically Protected channels. In the event of a disaster, Alternate Routing IOTS instantly re-routes optically protected traffic to provide near 100% survivability with no reduction in bandwidth.

  • IOTS affords flexible network configuration by accommodating a variety of interfaces, ring capacities of 4, 16 or 32 protected channels per node or from 32 protected to 64 unprotected channels and delivering optical services from OC-3 to Gigabit Ethernet. Even greater channel capacities can be achieved utilizing the new Multi-Port Interface Card Facility option.
  • We give you options in configuring IOTS by provisioning channels individually. If you prefer to manage your own recovery, you can order IOTS as unprotected channels for greater cost savings and raw-transport efficiencies. Configure IOTS as protected channels only for turn-key service, or mix protected and unprotected channels. Whatever your need, Verizon's IOTS is a great solution.

Availability

Effective as of February 15, 2007, Verizon is grandfathering the IntelliLight® Optical Transport Service (IOTS) in its FCC Tariff Nos. 1, 11, 14, and 16 (Tariffs). Last year, Verizon received forbearance from certain common carrier regulation for several packet-switched broadband services, as well as non-TDM-based optical networking, optical hubbing, and optical transmission services (Forbearance). In accordance with this Forbearance relief, Verizon will now offer a service comparable to IOTS under a private carriage arrangement.

Following the grandfathering of IOTS in the Tariffs, if you wish to place any new orders for IOTS, or to renew or extend your existing IOTS you will need to enter into a private carriage arrangement with Verizon for a comparable service. Subject to certain terms and conditions, you may make certain moves, additions, and changes to your existing IOTS under the Tariffs. Survivability

  • Optically Protected Channel Survivability: Near-100% survivability with no reduction in bandwidth. Virtually 100% capacity redundancy. Survivability is provided for the local loop, interoffice facilities and wire centers.
  • Optically Unprotected Channel Survivability: Will not survive a fiber facility failure along its provisioned route.

Network Guarantees

  • One-Minute Service Guarantee on Optically Protected Channels - If service is down for one minute or more, Verizon will refund 100% of the monthly charges for the applicable rate elements of the affected service.
  • Four-Hour Service Guarantee on Nodal Failures - If service is down for one minute or more, Verizon will refund 100% of the monthly charges for the applicable rate elements of the affected service.
  • There are no service guarantees for Optically Unprotected channels

For all Private Carriage Services, the above summary is provided for your information and reference only. However, the actual terms, conditions, restrictions, limitations and the like for Private Carriage Services will be those set forth in the agreement between the customer and Verizon for such Private Carriage Service and shall govern over any inconsistent provisions set forth herein.
