IntelliLight Shared Dual Path (ISDP)

Overview

Use Verizon's SONET Ring and Save

There is an alternative to expensive custom SONET rings for long distance providers. Verizon's IntelliLight Shared Dual Path (ISDP) service protects customer traffic with dual-path transport over multiple SONET rings. You share the SONET rings rather than own them to save capital dollars and reduce the costs of staffing and maintaining a private network.

One circuit on our ISDP has two paths. When situations warrant, traffic automatically reroutes to a standby path for survivability at the local loop, wire center and interoffice facility. ISDP lets you provide near 100 percent redundancy to customer locations for as little as one DS1 or DS3.

How It Works

ISDP uses dual paths between multiple SONET rings to route traffic. Normal Routing sends traffic over a working path and provides a diverse standby path to keep it moving in the event of a fault at the local loop, interoffice facility or wire center.

Alternate Routing serves to reroute your traffic as a standby path only.

Benefits

  • ISDP is available in a shared network to multiple locations. Therefore, you can cost-effectively provide nearly 100 percent survivability for DS1, DS3 and STS1 services.
  • Working with one vendor -- Verizon -- means reliability, fewer hassles and expert network performance monitoring.
  • As a SONET-based technology, ISDP protects customer transmissions with self-healing rings and automatic protection switching for seamless performance. The increased service assurance fosters greater customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Applications

  • ISDP's SONET-based architecture is excellent protection for customer locations having small quantities of service, yet require extremely high survivability.
  • When your customers' voice, data and video applications are mission-critical, recommend ISDP.

Share Our Rings -- Pocket the Revenue and Savings

ISDP lets you charge customers for added redundancy -- without making a capital investment.

  IntelliLight Shared Dual Path (ISDP)

Description

IntelliLight Shared Dual Path (ISDP) protects your traffic with dual paths transported over multiple shared, self-healing SONET rings. With ISDP, one circuit has two separate paths, so whenever necessary, traffic is automatically rerouted to a survivable, standby path. ISDP provides survivability at the local loop, interoffice facilities and wire centers.

ISDP offers SONET protection for as little as one DS1 or DS3. ISDP provides a higher level of survivability than is normally provided in Verizon's network. It ensures reliability and near 100% redundancy to your end-user locations. ISDP should be considered for customer locations with small quantities of service which require very high levels of survivability.

SONET (Synchronous Optical Network) is a set of standards for fiber optic transmission. SONET rings act as an ultra-high speed pipeline for multiple services. A SONET-based network protects your traffic with self-healing rings with automatic protection switching. It provides increased service assurance.

Please visit the Verizon East access tariff FCC #11, Sections 7 and 26 for applicable rates and charges or you may contact your Verizon Account Team for additional information.

Verizon offers a Special Access Service Guarantee (SASG) based on the length of service interruption and states that “any service outage greater than the specified SASG interval, due solely to a telephone company facility component failure, will result in a credit of 100% of the monthly rate for the applicable rate elements of the affected service. Only one such credit is allowed in a single month’s billing period”. For IntelliLight Shared Dual Path the SASG is one minute.

Detailed Information

ISDP relies upon one circuit with two separate paths, and in the event of trouble, traffic is automatically rerouted to a survivable standby path. To do this, IDWC uses dual paths between multiple SONET-based fiber rings.

Scenario A: Normal Routing-ISDP provides a working and a standby path over SONET-based, multiple central office fiber rings. In normal circumstances, traffic travels over the working path. The standby path is available in case a fault occurs in the local loop, the interoffice facilities, or a wire center.

Scenario B: Alternate Routing-If a fault occurs, traffic is automatically rerouted over the standby path.

Speeds

  • DS1 (1.544 Mbps)
  • DS3 (45 Mbps)
  • STS1 (51.84 Mbps)

Reliability

  • Verizon's network provides 99.9% reliability

Survivability

  • Near-100% network survivability

Network Guarantees

  • ISDP is covered by a one-minute service guarantee. If service is down for one minute or more, Verizon will refund the monthly charges for the affected underlying service with the IDWC feature and for the IDWC optional feature.
