IntelliLight Shared Single Path (ISSP)
Overview
Keep All Channels Open
Service termination for STS1 transport is both efficient and secure using Verizon's IntelliLight Shared Single Path (ISSP) optical networking service. Long distance providers win customer confidence by providing a dependable communications path between the customer premises and the serving wire center.
ISSP uses add/drop multiplexers in a ring mode to route fiber diversely and flexibly. Use ISSP special access channel termination at both ends or at one end where Verizon's IntelliLight Enhanced Facility (IEF) is at the other end for STS1 or DS3 speeds. ISSP connects interoffice transport for switched access at STS1. Whatever the configuration, ISSP keeps your customers connected.
How It Works
The STS1 rate category serves as the path between a customer premises and the wire center. ISSP channel termination includes a standard channel that defines the technical characteristics for the termination point and signaling. The STS1 may be a hubbed arrangement that connects to a STS1/DS1 multiplexer rate element.
Benefits
- Verizon's ISSP shares a SONET-based architecture for speed, reliability and cost efficiencies.
- Reduce your transport costs by connecting at the closest point in Verizon's large footprint.
- Offer your customers the security of optical networking and help improve your bottom line.
Applications
- Use ISSP with Verizon's IntelliLight Entrance Facility and IntelliLight Dedicated SONET Ring offerings to protect local loop and entrance facility connectivity.
- Recommend ISSP for customers using critical voice, data and video applications.
- Use ISSP to terminate STS1 transport channels securely, efficiently and cost effectively.
The Path to Success
Capitalize on SONET capabilities and build-in greater reliability for customer networks. ISSP helps you do both.
Description
IntelliLight Shared Single Path (ISSP) introduces a new Channel Termination (CT) rate element for STS1 transport, which is provided using shared network SONET infrastructure. The STS1 rate category provides the communications path between a customer-designated premise and the serving wire center (SWC) of the premise. A standard channel is included as a part of the CT. It defines the technical characteristics associated with the type of facilities to which the access service is connected at the Point of Termination (POT) and the type of signaling capability, if applicable. The Interface for Special Access STS1 CT will be either an STS1 or DS3; the Interface for Switched Access is STS1 only. One CT applies per customer designated premises at which the channel is terminated.

Verizon offers a Special Access Service Guarantee (SASG) based on the length of service interruption and states that any service outage greater than the specified SASG interval, due solely to a telephone company facility component failure, will result in a credit of 100% of the monthly rate for the applicable rate elements of the affected service. Only one such credit is allowed in a single month's billing period. For IntelliLight Shared Single Path the SASG is four hours in the former Bell Atlantic South states and one hour in the former Bell Atlantic North states.
