Expand your capabilities -- and your customers'. SONET enables wireless carriers to transport voice, video and data services faster, farther and more reliably than other technologies. Plus, SONET's standard interfaces net you speed-to-market with new service offerings that can increase revenue.

SONET is flexible. Verizon deploys either point-to-point, diverse or ring topologies to design your custom SONET network. You reserve bandwidth up to OC-12, OC-48 or OC-192, but you build the network as you grow in smaller OC-3 and OC-12 increments for affordability. We offer a variety of complementary products for interconnection. And, in some areas, Verizon offers Near-Out-of-Franchise SONET so that you have one provider for the service -- even when the service is needed outside a Verizon area.

How It Works
SONET accepts electrical interfaces, multiplexes them and changes the signals into optical format for fiber optic cable transport. When the optical signal reaches its destination, SONET converts it back to an electrical signal and de-multiplexes to its original format.

Most often, Verizon uses a self-healing ring topology for network redundancy and maximum transport protection.
