Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Order Guide

Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Order Guide

Overview

The purpose of this document is to assist carriers with ordering Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) service.

Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Network Service is a form of 'fast packet' switching service for high speed networks which require flexible bandwidth, high-performance transport and switching for connectivity between and among widely distributed customer locations. ATM is a cell-based, connection-oriented, switching and multiplexing technology designed to be a fast, general-purpose transfer mode for multiple services.

ATM switching units are provisioned in select serving wire centers. ATM networks are formed by linking ATM switches with trunks patterned to traffic flow. You access the network via port cards mounted in the ATM switching platforms and physical access channels.

> Read more about Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) service.

Pre-Order

Locations (wire centers) that provide ATM Cell Relay Service have been designated as ATM CRS hubs. Each local serving office has been placed in a Tier, either one 1, two 2, or 3 three, based on its location relative to the closest ATM CRS hub.

Tier 1 = 0-5 miles

Tier 2 = over 5-25 miles

Tier 3 = over 25-50 miles

The appropriate tier must be determined in order to apply the correct USOC to the service order. The Tier structure does not apply to IISP service orders in the same manner, only Tier 1 applies.

Order
