Multi-port Interface Facilities And Channels (MPIC) Order Guide

Multi-port Interface Facilities And Channels (MPIC) Order Guide

Overview

The purpose of this document is to assist carriers with ordering Multi-port Interface Facilities and Channels.

Multi-port Facilities are used in conjunction with our Verizon IntelliLight Optical Transport Service (IOTS). The Multi-port Facilities are used for connections over a Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) ring between two multi-port interface cards. Each of these sub-rate muxing facilities uses a single card for the transport of multiple channels. These channels are referred to as Multi-port Channels.

Enabling the use of a multi-port interface facility and channels on the IOTS ring increases the marketability of the DWDM ring by increasing the maximum number of channels available to the customer at any node. Therefore, this enhancement allows specific protocols to more efficiently utilize DWDM wavelengths on IOTS rings.

A multi-port facility is established between two specific node (premise or CO) locations that rides the IOTS ring as either an unprotected or protected channel. With a multi-port facility it is required that all optical multi-port channels, provided over it, have the same originating and termination points on the ring.

Pre-Order

Pre-requisite: IOTS Ring: The IntelliLight Optical Transport Service (IOTS) ring needs to be in effect before ordering the Multi-port Facility.

Step 1: MPIC Facility: A planning session is required prior to submitting the Access Service Request (ASR) for the MPIC Facility. Please contact your Verizon Account Manager for more information.

Step 2: MPIC Channel: The MPIC Facility should be in effect prior to submitting an Access Service Request (ASR) for a subtending Multi-port Channel.

New MPIC Service is provided only on a private carriage basis under a Master Services Agreement arrangement between the Customer and Verizon. Note: the Contract ID must be populated in the PNUM field on the Access Service Request. Learn more aboutLearn more about private carriage agreements (Forbearance).

Order

This section provides instruction on how to order Multi-port Facilities and Multi-port Channels.

Verizon reminds you to review the Valid Entry(s), Edit/Usage Rule(s), and Field Notes found in the Access Business Rules for the appropriate field value.
