Transparent LAN Service (TLS) Order Guide

Transparent LAN Service (TLS) Order Guide

Overview

The purpose of this document is to assist carriers with ordering Transparent LAN Service.

Ethernet Transparent LAN Service (TLS) is a high speed data service which provides Ethernet transport over a shared fiber optic network and to transport the Customer's data between Customer designated Premises. TLS is available in two service types: Ethernet Multipoint Service (EMS) and Ethernet Relay Service (ERS). EMS allows connectivity among multiple Customer designated Premises. ERS allows point-to-point connectivity between Customer designated Premises.

Read more about Transparent LAN Service.

Pre-Order

This product is ordered under a private carriage service agreement (Forbearance), the Contract ID must be populated in the PNUM Field on the ASR Form. Learn more about Forbearance or contact your Verizon Account Manager for more details.

Service Inquiry

TLS/SES UNI is ordered via Access Ordering Web (Order by Product or Order by ASR), NDM or UOM. The TLS/SES Service Inquiry Process is optional. If you choose to use the Inquiry to Firm Order Process, you must first submit an Inquiry ASR via Access Ordering Web, NDM or UOM. The following guidelines describe the required fields for a Service Inquiry. Please review the Valid Entry(s), Edit/Usage Rule(s), and Field Notes found in the Access Business Rules. for the appropriate field values.

Note: The following services are not available via the inquiry process:

  • TLS UNI Sub Rate Ethernet Transport
  • TLS UNI over SONET Optical Transport
  • TLS UNI/EVC Combination ASR
  • TLS UNI RPON Port Speed Change
  • TLS UNI LAG - Link Aggregation
  • ENNI
  • EVC

Order

A complete ASR is essential to properly provision and bill Transparent LAN Service (TLS/SES). The following information pertains to the fields that will impact TLS/SES requests. All fields on the ASR (including those not listed here) must be populated according to the Access Business Rules.

New service is ordered under a private carriage service agreement (Forbearance). The Contract ID must be populated in the Promotion Number (PNUM) field on the ASR form.

TLS/SES can also be ordered using a Direct to Firm order process. This process does not require the Service Inquiry ASR. However, if a customer/carrier submits the Service Inquiry ASR, the existing rules for the Inquiry to Firm process apply.

NC/NCI/SECNCI Combinations

The matrix below provides the Network Channel/Network Channel Interface/Secondary Network Channel Interface Combinations for use in ordering and provisioning TLS/SES UNI service.

Notes

1 - Protected NC codes (forth character equals "P") are not applicable for micro cell site service requests

ERS Premier = a User to Network interface that allows point-to-point or multipoint Ethernet virtual connections. This service type can be ordered with tagged or untagged frame formats. Connectivity can be established only between/among UNI/E-NNIs of the same service type. ERS Premier UNI Port with Access Line Connection requires some combination of BASIC, PD, and/or RT EVC service classes.

Note: Frame format is conditional for EVC configurations.

ERS Premier Tunnel = a User to Network interface that only allows one point-to-point Ethernet virtual connection. This service type can only be ordered with tagged frame format. EVC connectivity can only be established from an ERS Premier Tunnel to an ERS Premier Tagged UNI or E-NNI. ERS Premier Tunnel UNI Port with Access Line Connection requires some combination of BASIC, PD, and/or RT EVC service classes.

Note: A preferred VLAN (ie. VLAN translation) is not allowed on the EVC request when one end point is ERS Premier Tunnel.

ERS Standard = a User to Network interface that only allows one point-to-point Ethernet virtual connection (EVC). The bandwidth of the EVC must be equivalent to the bandwidth of the UNI. This service type can be ordered with tagged or untagged frame formats. Connectivity can only be established between/among Standard UNI or E-NNI. ERS Standard UNI Port with Access Line Connection requires STANDARD EVC service class.

EMS = a User to Network interface that allows multipoint-to-multipoint connectivity among all of Customer's access lines at multiple Customer designated Premises within a given user group/domain. The EMS UNI Port with Access Line Connection is automatically configured with a Basic service level.

EMS-RT = a User to Network interface that allows multipoint-to-multipoint connectivity among all of Customer's access lines at multiple Customer designated Premises within a given user group/domain. The EMS-RT UNI Port with Access Line Connection is automatically configured with Basic and RT service levels.
