Yellow Page Heading Files
Yellow Page Heading Files

Yellow Page Headings are used to determine where business customers' listing will appear in the Yellow Pages directory. Population of this information on orders for new business listings is very important.

Verizon Information Services edits at the directory level for yellow page headings. If a heading is provided that is not acceptable for the directory, the CLEC will be notified, and a new heading selected.

Below are links to the heading files for Verizon East and instructions for use of these files.

Changes to Yellow Page Headings Effective June 19, 2006.

Effective June 19, 2006, the Yellow Page Headings and Codes used in Verizon East will be updated to new heading titles and 8 digit codes. Included in this web site is a Verizon South Yellow Page Heading file, a Verizon North Yellow Page Heading file and record layout. These files contain all headings in use by Verizon Information Services. Both the class heading number and the EXPANDED class heading text must be sent to the NMC for Verizon Information Services.

Although most headings are acceptable for all states, there are some exceptions. To verify if a heading is acceptable in a specific state the State Yellow Page Heading Exceptions file and record layout are provided. While the Yellow Page Heading file lists all headings (verbiage and codes), the State Yellow Page Exceptions file lists the headings (verbiage only) that are available for use in each state. Although the heading exceptions file is not categorized at a directory level, the file aids greatly in the choice of an acceptable heading for the end user to appear under in the directory.

Please be patient. These files are fairly large and, depending on your modem speed, may take several minutes to open.

Do not include these new headings/codes on your LSRs until June 19, 2006. If used before that date, your LSR will error.

Handling YPH Changes
Requests for changes in Yellow Page headings (free or contracted) or for discontinuance of Yellow Page listings, where no order is being issued for related White Page listings, can only be accomplished by referring the end user to Verizon Directories Customer Service at 1-800-555-4833. This includes:
  • Existing listings in the Yellow Pages: the Yellow Page Heading that the listing falls under cannot be changed via an LSR.
  • The migration of an end user from a local service provider to a new local service provider, the new local service provider establishes a listing for that end user using an activity of new (LACT=N) but can not change the heading.
  • Adding a heading to an existing listing that currently does not have a heading specified (heading = None).
Directory Advertising
End users must be referred to Verizon Directories for directory advertising requests, such as:
  • Requests or inquiries regarding Directory Advertising in the White or Yellow Page Directories
  • Requests to cancel or to change advertising listings
  • Additional Yellow Page Directory listings
  • Cross Reference, Alternate Number or Night listings if desired in the Yellow Pages
  • Captions, sub-captions, and indent arrangements in the Yellow Page Directory, if different from the White Page appearance
  • Bold Type listings
  • White Page Directory Feature listings
For resolution of Yellow Pages issues, end users should contact their Verizon Directories Sales Representative directly. If a representative has not made prior contact with the end user or failing to reach resolution with their Sales Representative, end users may call Verizon Directories Customer Service at 1-800-555-4833.
