Yellow Pages - Heading Files, Changes and Directory Advertising

Yellow Page Heading Files
Yellow Page Headings are used to determine where business customers' free listing will appear in the Yellow Pages directory. Population of the Yellow Page Heading when establishing new business listings is required. Select a heading from the files below to ensure your customer's listing appears in the correct section of the Yellow Pages.

An entry of "Customer Declines Free Appearance" will result in the business customers' listing not appearing in the Yellow Pages and should only be used if your customer has indicated they do not desire the free Yellow Page appearance. Use of the heading NONE should be discontinued as this heading is being phased out.

Yellow Page Heading changes are prohibited on all listing migration activity. Migrated listings are considered existing listings and are not entitled to changes through the LSR process. If a migrating customer wants to change the Yellow Page Heading under which their free listings will appear, they must contact DexMedia LLC (publisher of Verizon print directories) to make the change.

Both the Yellow Page Heading Number and the Expanded Yellow Page Heading Text must be included on the Directory Listing form. Refer to the Business Rules section of the website for more information on entering Yellow Page Headings on LSRs.

Although most headings are acceptable for all states, there are some exceptions. Therefore, Verizon provides the heading files in two formats. The State Yellow Page Heading file provides a list of valid headings for each state. We recommend using this file in order to provide the most accurate headings for your customer. NOTE: The heading code is located to the far right side of this file.

The State Yellow Page Heading files are provided by region:

Heading files are also provided by region:

The State Yellow Page Heading file is sorted by State, SIC, then Heading Text. The regional Yellow Page Heading files are sorted by Heading code. We recommend that you use the Search function (CNTL +F) to search for the headings you need.

The Yellow Page Heading files are updated monthly so please refer to this website for updates to be sure you are utilizing the most current list of headings. Please be patient; these files are fairly large and, depending on your modem speed, may take several minutes to open.

Yellow page headings are edited at the directory level. If a heading is provided that is not valid for the directory, the CLEC will be notified, and a new heading selected. Although the State Yellow Page Heading file is not categorized at a directory level, the file aids greatly in the choice of an acceptable heading for the end user to appear under in the directory.

If you have any questions related to the information in these files, please contact the CLEC Liaison at (972) 453-6216.

Handling YPH Changes
Requests for changes in Yellow Page headings (free or contracted) or for discontinuance of Yellow Page listings, where no order is being issued for related White Page listings, can only be accomplished by referring the end user to DexMedia Customer Service at 1-800-555-4833. This includes:

  • Existing listings in the Yellow Pages: the Yellow Page Heading that the listing falls under cannot be changed via an LSR.
  • The migration of an end user from a local service provider to a new local service provider, the new local service provider establishes a listing for that end user using an activity of new (LACT=N) but can not change the heading.
  • Adding a heading to an existing listing that currently does not have a heading specified (heading = None).

Directory Advertising
End users must be referred to DexMedia LLC (publisher of Verizon print directories) for directory advertising requests, such as:

  • Requests or inquiries regarding Directory Advertising in the White or Yellow Page Directories
  • Requests to cancel or to change advertising listings
  • Additional Yellow Page Directory listings
  • Cross Reference, Alternate Number or Night listings if desired in the Yellow Pages
  • Captions, sub-captions, and indent arrangements in the Yellow Page Directory, if different from the White Page appearance
  • Bold Type listings
  • White Page Directory Feature listings

For resolution of Yellow Pages issues, end users should contact DexMedia LLC (publisher of Verizon print directories). If the end user fails to reach resolution with their Sales Representative, he may call DexMedia Customer Service at 1-800-555-4833.
