Verizon’s Metro Wavelength services allow you to offer your customers a high-speed, private network that provides dedicated transport options. Metro Wavelength gives your subscribers optical network connectivity services in single or multiple wavelengths for point-to-point or multipoint configurations. This arrangement makes it easy for you to meet your business customers’ needs for an affordable high-bandwidth IntraLATA transport avenue.

Metro Wavelength services from Verizon deliver 2.5 Gbps and 10 Gbps wavelength speeds. Non-transparent configurations give your subscribers SONET OC-48 and OC-192, D1 Video, GigE, Fiber Channel or ESCON equipment interfaces with custom design. Metro Wavelength also supports transparency for protocol independent applications and provides flexibility to your customers.

Verizon’s Metro Wavelength services offer an IntraLATA 2.5 Gbps or a 10 Gbps optical circuit connection. We deliver the connections as unprotected signals or as protected signals using Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM). Many data streams can then travel over the same pair of fiber by using different colors of light.

Benefits

  • Metro Wavelength services are cost-effective for subscribers by allowing them to pay for the service they need now and migrate to higher levels of service as their business grows.
  • Verizon’s service lets you meet the needs for flexible high-broadband service for subscribers while leveraging affordable controlled wavelength interconnections that can provide a new revenue stream for you.

Applications

  • Sell Metro Wavelength services as an efficient and scalable way to connect mainframes within a metropolitan area.
  • Promote Metro Wavelength services for supporting data centers within a state.
  • Sell Metro Wavelength services to customers needing a reliable data storage network for business.

Ride the Wave to Help Increase Revenue

The Metro Wavelength product is an IntraLATA Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) service designed to offer a 2.5Gbps and 10Gbps optical circuit. Metro Wavelength Service allows the customer to purchase single or multiple wavelengths in a point-to-point or multi-point configuration. Wavelength Services provide businesses with an efficient and scalable way to connect mainframes, data centers, and storage networks within a metropolitan area. This high-bandwidth optical network makes it possible for many data streams to travel over the same pair of fiber by utilizing different colors of light.

This is delivered as an unprotected or protected signal using DWDM. Its flexibility lends itself as a protocol-independent universal optical interface and is designed for IntraLATA locations within the United States.

The Metro Wavelength Service can be designed as either a point to point or multipoint configuration and delivered as non-transparent or transparent.

  • 2.5 Gbps Wavelength Service
    • Non-Transparent service is currently available, to provide customers with an optical handoff on the wavelength, using SONET framing. Customers may choose from: SONET (OC-48 or OC-192), GigE (1 Gbps), D1 Video (270Mbps), Fiber Channel (1 Gbps, 2 Gbps), FICON (1 Gbps, 2 Gbps), and ESCON (200 Mbps).
    • Transparent (protocol independent) services are available on individual case basis (ICB).
  • 10 Gbps Wavelength Service
    • Non-Transparent service is currently available, to provide customers with an optical handoff on the wavelength, using SONET framing. Customers may choose from: SONET (OC-48 or OC-192), GigE (1 Gbps), D1 Video (270Mbps), Fiber Channel (1 Gbps, 2 Gbps), FICON (1 Gbps, 2 Gbps), and ESCON (200 Mbps).
    • Ethernet (LAN PHY) 10GigE interface is available.
    • Transparent (protocol independent) services are available on an ICB.

Metro Wavelength Services are provided to support your high bandwidth needs offering several features so you can customize your solution.

  • Supports Gigabit Ethernet, SONET, Fiber Channel, D1 Digital Video, ESCON, and FICON. Metro Wavelength Service supports these native protocols without the purchase of additional protocol translation equipment.
  • Flexible network design configurations supporting both point-to-point and multi-point configurations. Metro Wavelength also offers flexible data channel assignments which helps control incremental costs for future bandwidth growth and technology.

Metro Wavelength can support a variety of applications and solutions:

  • Supports D1 Video transport
  • Disaster recovery
  • Off-site data backup
  • Interconnection of local area and storage networks
