Verizon Digital Media Services (VDMS) leverages the Verizon EdgeCast Content Delivery Network (CDN) to enable customers to offload the serving of website content to geographically distributed servers (located worldwide in Verizon EdgeCast SuperPOPs) rather than the traditional method of distributing content from origin servers. This improves the end-user experience by loading content -- dynamic, static and video -- more quickly and efficiently. Content that is delivered in real-time in response to user behavior is delivered dynamically (non-static).

VDMS offers solutions for online commerce, web acceleration, security, DNS, live and on-demand video and more. The Commerce and Web Acceleration Solutions (described under “Service Details�? below) provide a comprehensive collection of products and features for handling a diverse and ever-changing set of applications and content.

VDMS provides routing optimization technologies to select the most optimal path back to the content provider’s origin servers to improve response times and reduce round trips from end users back to the content origin. VMDS also provides content compression to more efficiently send content to users, as well as advanced caching functionality for granular control over how and when content is served to end users. All of this is managed through an intuitive and easy-to-use customer portal that provides exceptional flexibility and functionality. The platform maintains a 100% uptime service level and provides real-time analytics and in-depth reporting, giving customers a better understanding of end user traffic, trends and potential issues.

Commerce Solution

The Commerce Solution is a purpose-built network offered only to eCommerce sites, designed to accelerate applications and content. Having a purpose-built platform means having code freezes (no network updates are deployed) during the end of the calendar year, to minimize service interruptions during customers' busiest times of the year of the year. Each year, eCommerce sites increase in size and deliver more photos, videos and other content. Our customers need this content to reach end-users almost instantly and our VDMS solution does just that.

The Commerce Solution, designed specifically for online retailers, distributes customer content in a fast, Level 1 PCI-certified environment. In addition, it is equipped with security features, including the Web Application Firewall (WAF). This gives end-users the confidence to make purchases from sites, which helps drive online revenue.

Web Acceleration Solution

The Web Acceleration Solution improves the performance of sites and web applications by accelerating the delivery of dynamic content. Web Acceleration opens and accelerates the data paths through which content travels across the EdgeCast CDN. It features change management tools to quickly modify settings which include (but are not limited to):

  • Compute (Rules Engine)
  • Route (DNS)
  • Defend (WAF)
